duduk jazz - cut 1
Saturday, August 16th, 2008Ever since I heard the sound of the duduk I have been captivated by its terrible sadness. If mountains could cry, it would be the droning lament of the duduk. As one of the oldest double reed instruments in the world I have been trying to find examples in Armenia and the Caucasus of jazz musicians using the duduk like a saxophone. Perhaps such music exists and I am simply not looking in the right direction? Anything is possible.
This is a two minute exercise; a duet with duduk and tenor saxophone. I added the drum beat after the recording was finished because a friend of mine was curious if you could dance to the duduk. Of course, but probably not in the way she was thinking.
